No Growth—or Good Growth?

Pretty simple and straightforward. There’s no “freezing time”  - and, as some leading citizens and city officials have stated at public meetings, "You grow or you die." The name of the game is managing growth in an intelligent manner. And the history of San Marcos provides some great clues about how to do that.

Create conditions in which curiosity, innovation, invention, change, and opportunity can flourish.  San Marcos has been doing that since the days of the Clovis settlers, and that is deeply embedded in the DNA of the community.  Each generation—whether the early Spanish settlers, the later arriving pioneers of the “wild west,” or the modern day leaders who helped usher in school integration and social change—understood and embraced that responsibility, and San Marcos is the unique and thriving community that it is today because of that visionary tradition.
